Gokyo Lake gives an alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp. Gokyo lake (4800m/15748 feet) Renjo la pass (5360m/17585feet) trek is no doubt one of the most spectacular route in the Everest region. This trek starts at Lukla (2828m/9278 feet) and follows the Dudh Koshi valley which climbs up to the Sherpa capital of Namche.
Gokyo Lake Trek also starts from Lukla after a 40 minute mountain flight from Kathmandu following the Dudh Koshi River towards Namche, the gateway of Khumbu region. After Namche you branch off from the main busy trail towards the sleepy village of Phortse Tenga and finally reach our ultimate destination, Gokyo Lake, passing through the villages of Dole and Machhermo. Climbing Gokyo Ri (5357m) close to Gokyo Lake offers spectacular views of Mt. Everest and another three 8000 metre peaks (Mt. Cho Oyu, Lhotse and Makalu). From here you can also see the largest glacier in Nepal called Ngozumpa and the tremendous ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang (7922m). This is one of the most dramatic panoramas of Gokyo Lake Trek.
