Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region of China, is an ancient town dated back to more than 1300 years in the history of Tibet. The Lhasa Tour hence takes you to some of the ancient and most prominent landmarks of Lhasa, which allow you to look deeper into the cultural beliefs and practices of Tibetan Buddhism while enjoying the natural landscape that Lhasa is composed with.
The 4 day Lhasa Tour starts as you fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa, enjoying an aerial view of the mountains and the Tibetan Plateau. Lhasa is a famous city as it has been the center of culture, politics, economy, and religion in Tibet. The age-old nunneries and monasteries in the city have conserved many ancient relics and Buddhist scriptures. During this trip, you visit all three UNESCO world heritage sites in Lhasa—Potala Palace, Norbulingka, and Jokhang Temple—including some other landmarks. Potala Palace used to be the former residence of successive Dalai Lamas until the 14th Dalai Lama had to take refuge in India. The palace houses the private quarters of the spiritual leader which is now open for visitors to observe. Similarly, Norbulingka consists of the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas and a garden surrounding it. Jokhang Temple, on the other hand, is the most important and sacred temple in the whole of Tibet and is enclosed by Barkhor Market where the pilgrims circumambulate the temple. The tour also features a visit to Drepung Monastery, which is one of the “great three” Gelug university monasteries in Tibet. This Lhasa Tour package is one of the shortest and enriching trips for someone wanting to explore the great values of Tibetan Buddhism.
