Langtang Valley Ganjala Pass
Embark on our amazing 14-day Langtang Valley Trek with Ganja la Pass that takes you to the famous Langtang region and the Ganja La pass (5122m/16,800 ft). Moreover, we also make an interesting excursion to Tserko Ri (5,000m/16,404ft) which offers tremendous views of the Langtang Himalaya range. The Langtang region is so close to Kathmandu and yet it’s as wild as any Tibetan highlands.
Langtang region is also famous for its Gosaikunda Lakes as well as green rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and snow-capped Himalayas make the trek one of most diverse treks near Kathmandu. The people living in the highlands of the Langtang region are descendant of Tibetan origin.
We start the adventure with a day’s bus ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. The trek begins from Syabrubesi, via the Kanyanjing Gompa crossing the mighty Ganja La Pass and ends at the Melamchi Pul Bazar in the Helambu region. Toward the end of the trip, you will also trek through some beautiful rice terraces and a number of splendid Buddhist monasteries around the delightful villages of Tarke Gyang and Sermathang before heading back to Kathmandu.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu – 1,300m/4,264 ft
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Epic Adventures. After completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc) pick up your luggage and look for our representative with a Epic Adventures display board at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to your hotel. Included meals:
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing & Preparation for the Trek
Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. The day will also be for finalizing official procedure and other necessary arrangements. You will be also briefed on the nature of the trek, equipments and team composition. Some of landmarks we visit include the World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhu Nath) and Buddhists shrine (Bouddha Nath). In the afternoon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we can meet our trek leader and other team members. You can also make your last minute buying of personal items. Included meals:B.
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi (1,550m/5,100ft): 145 km/ 7 hrs
After breakfast we drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu. Enjoy the Himlayan views and mountainous lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. Take Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar before continuing further to Dhunche. From Dhunche, we descent down to Syabrubesi. Included meals:B.LD
Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,380m/7,830ft): 6 hrs
Today is our first day of trekking. We follow the Langtang Khola River, pass through the dense forests and cross several suspension bridges. We also pass by a tea houses. The trail goes up and down but it’s not that challenging. Included meals:B.L.D.
Day 05: Trek to Langtang village (3,430m/11,253ft): 6/7 hr
After morning tea, we embark on our second day of the journey. Our trail continues along dense forests. After making a steady climb up through the valley, we leave the tree line behind us. Enjoy the marvelous views of Langtang Lirung Pass while passing water mills, prayer wheels, chortens and mani stones with inscriptions carved on them. Included meals:B.L.D.
Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m/12,697ft): 3-1/2 hr
After morning tea and breakfast, we trek out of the village and pass through yak pastures and cross several of the wooden bridges. Since we are getting into the high altitudes, you might start feeling the thin air. Included meals:B.L.D.
Day 07: Excursion to Tsergo Ri (5033m/16,508 ft) and back to Kyanjin: 7/ 8 hrs
Today we make an excursion to Tsergo Ri which would also help us to acclimatize. The climb to Tsergo Ri which is above 5 thousand meters offers a magnificently panoramic views of the Himalayas. Besides, the climb to Tsergo Ri is a challenging one and the time for the climb depends upon your physical fitness and previous experience. By evening, we return back to Kyanjing Gompa. Day 08: Trek to Ganja La phedi (4300m/14,104 ft): 5-6 hr
After breakfast we start trekking to Ganja La Phedi, cross the Langtang River and ascend through rhododendron forests. Since we’re already in high altitude, the time for getting to our destination also depends on the weather conditions. During winter it might take longer to cross the snow strewn path. Day 09: Cross the Ganja La pass (5122m/16,800 ft) Trek to Keldang (4250m/13,940ft): 6/7 hr Today we cross the Ganja La pass. It will be a strenuous day since Ganja La is a difficult pass. Ganja la pass is covered with snow almost throughout the year. Make the long ascent through the boulders, pass the small lakes and summit Ganja La which situated on a rocky moraine. Enjoy the spectacular views from the pass. Climbing up and down the pass can sometimes be tricky due to snowfall and ice. From the pass, we descend down to Keldang. Included meals:B.L.D.
Day 10: Trek to Yak Kharka (4000m/13,120ft): 5/6 hr
From Keldang we descend further down following a prominent ridge line. On our 5-6 hrs trek we continue in lower altitude passing through forests, ridges, and grasslands. Included meals:B.L.D.
Day 11: Trek to Tarke Gyang(2,590m/8,497ft): 5/6 hrs
Today we descend down by 1500m. As you descend lower, you will notice more vegetation. Included meals:B.L.D
Day 12: Trek to Sermathang(2,610m/8,563ft): 3/4 hr
We walk through small forests with the view of beautiful villages of the Helembu region. The trail makes takes us around the valley and ends between Parachin and the pretty Sherpa village of Gangyul. The people of this village practice Tibetan Buddhism. Included meals:B.L.D.
Day 13: Trek to Malemchi Puul Bazaar: Drive to Kathmandu: 3/4 hrs trek/ 2 hr drive On our final day of the trekking, we walk down to Malemchi Pul Bazaar with many Sherpa villages along the way. From the Bazaar we catch a bus back to Kathmandu. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, in the evening, there will be dinner and Cultural show hosted by Epic Adventures . Day 14: Farewell Friend
We are saying good bye to the mountains as journey in Nepal comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with travel companions and organise the photos. If you have more time you can do some shopping or sightseeing. Approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight a representative from Epic Adventures will take you to the airport. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal. Included meals:B
Important Note: Your safety is of paramount concern while traveling with Epic Adventures. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.
